Delete a memory, a person, or the whole account.

1. Delete one thing

Tell Companion in Telegram. “Forget that Dana is moving” or “that birthday is wrong, delete it” is enough. It will confirm what it removed.

You can also open the control panel with /settings and remove individual entries there.

2. Delete one person

Ask Companion to forget a person entirely, or remove them in the control panel. That deletes their details, the dates attached to them, the promises you recorded, and any scheduled reminders about them.

3. Delete your whole account

Use /delete_me in Telegram. This deletes your memory, your people, your settings and your scheduled reminders, and stops Companion contacting you.

4. Export before you delete

Open /settings and choose export. You will get a machine-readable copy of what Companion holds: your people, the details and dates against them, your promises, and your settings. Exporting does not delete anything.

5. What happens after you delete

• The information is removed from the live service immediately and stops being used for reminders or drafts.
• It is purged from our encrypted backups within 30 days, as those backups roll over.
• Raw voice audio is already gone: it is discarded as soon as it has been transcribed, whether or not you delete anything.
• We may keep a minimal record that an account was deleted where we need it to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute. That record does not contain your relationship memory.

Deleting your Companion account does not delete the Telegram conversation from your own Telegram account. Clear that in Telegram if you want it gone.

6. Requests from other people

If you are not a Companion user and believe someone has recorded information about you, we cannot search for you or confirm whether any individual’s memory mentions you, because doing so would expose our user’s private information. Companion never contacts anyone other than its own user, and it never shares one person’s memory with another.

The person who holds the information is the one who can delete it. If you have a concern you cannot resolve with them, email privacy@companion.social and we will explain what we can and cannot do.

7. If you cannot get to Telegram

Email privacy@companion.social and include the Telegram username you use with Companion if it is safe to do so. We will need to verify it is you before deleting anything. We aim to acknowledge within 5 business days and complete within 30 days.
